how do you prove oil is a fossil fuel?
why is there so much oil in the middle-east?
why is there oil in the artic?
why do oil wells seem retappable after 90 years or so?

    If you really want the mindbender, consider that Oil has been synthesized through purely mechanical means. Scientists supercompressed everyday trash, and one of the things they created (other than a mess) was oil.

    That being said, oil is slowly choking the life out of our environment, so renewable energy source or not, weaning ourselves off it would be a good idea.

    Short answer no. To be a renewable resource, it must replenish itself at a rate greater than or equal to the rate at which we are consuming it. Oil takes thousands of years to make naturally. Our civilization is not on the same timescale, so therefore it is not renewable.
