      Not a good idea. Mercury is dangerous. It’s bad enough that environmental stupidity has forced mercury containing light bulbs into our homes. We don’t need it in cars too.

      Nope.

      While mercury has a vapor presure, it also oxidizes very very fast.

      Technically, Mercury Fulminate was an ignition source for starting some engines in the 19th and 20th century, these were the engines that were started with a shotgun shell detonation. Fulminated mercury is a contact explosive that was used in Primers into the 1950′s.

      The problem is the Fulminate is corrosive, as are the combustion by products. And the matter of mercury toxicity still is present with the byproducts.

      So the short answer is "No."

      If I load a soap box derby with a bucket of mercury it becomes much heavier and will more easily overcome resistance to go faster down a hill.1 Is more weight an alternative fuel for a gravity powered vehicle? If you feel this is true then you can answer your question in the affirmative, but I think you would agree that this is not what you are suggesting.

      There are many things that are possible but not all of them are practical or economical. As mercury is a hazardous substance most of the time we are trying to get mercury out of fuel, the environment and our food supply. The ion engine cited below is only used in space and mercury is only used as a propellant.

      no .practically not possible.the density of mercury is tooo high..if used then will surely break the shockers..but if still we design any type of shocker then the height of car would be like of a truck & of a truck i cant imagine..
      it is also toooooo much expensive we all know that..
      while it can not be oxidised by the spark plug under normal conditions..its oxidation energy is too high..
      it is also not bio degradable i.e. will cause a big amount of polution.

      No. Very, very bad idea.

      First, what chemical reaction are you referencing to generate power? As far as I know, mercury doesn’t have any reactions like that.

      Second, mercury is heavy. Increasing the weight of a vehicle requires more fuel per mile.

      Third, mercury is EXTREMELY TOXIC. If you breathe gasoline fumes, you might get a bit high. Breathe the same amount of mercury fumes and you will get dead. Ever heard the phrase, "mad as a hatter"? It refers to how hat makers used to be exposed to mercury fumes, causing them to literally go barking insane shortly before they fell over dead.
