What is the solution to the energy crisis?

As oil tops 0 a barrell we can expect per gallon in the next few years. Petrol, a non-renewable resource must be on its way out. Ethanol, a renewable clean burning fuel, is a favorite, however critics have cited it as a poor choice as, they claim it will cause food prices to soar even higher, specifically corn. And cause a (further) food shortage among poorer nations.
What can be a solution that everyone can live with?

    Build safe and clean nuclear power plants to provide the electric power we need. The technology now exist to do this.
    Start Drilling for Oil where ever it can be found. We now have another Country drilling for oil 12 miles of our American Coast!
    Build the refineries that are needed, but have been stopped by the misguided, and misinformed environmentalists.
    Stop using food products for fuel, and find other means to provide power for autos and transports.
    I know that these things will take time, but we have to start somewhere. If anyone else has REAL better ideas, then make them known!

    DRILL IN ANWAR!! We are sitting right on top of soooo much of our own oil. It’s ridiculous to make us pay another country when we have our own.
    ENVIRONMENTALISTS! Let us drill for our own oil. You’re doing a disservice to your own country. Keep the fight, but be reasonable.

    The solution is easy. Stop using food for fuel. Drill in Anwar, stop expanding the National Oil Reserve, while researching and developing viable alternative fuel sources for vehicles. Making fuels from coal wouldn’t hurt either.

    We must realize there are no quick fixes.
    We must also realize that there are people working on the problem. private enterprise will come up with a solution, always has, always will.
    Congress would serve us best by getting out of the way.

    Ethanol for 4 cycle and 2 cycle motors used in portable power tools and things such as lawnmowers

    Hydrogen fuel cells for passenger vehicles

    CH4 reclamation to be converted to methanol for heavy equipment and heavy load transport vehicles.

    Combination of wind, solar, hydro, and nuclear enery for electricity.

    Problem solved as soon as exxon gets the industries monopolized.

    a) Drill and refine our own oil, which we have vast reserves of. (Even the threat of doing so would cut the cost of oil in half. Nothing an Arab loves more than his money.) And

    b) Stop it with the designer fuels and biofuels. Not only is ethanol inefficient to manufacture, it’s inefficient to use causing vehicles to lose 10% of their MPG. Then too, nothing is more obscene than burning the world’s food in our cars.

    There are several;

    Buy a reel lawn mower and get rid of the gas powered mower.
    Used a rake instead of a leaf blower.
    If you have an errand to run that is within a mile or two, walk don’t drive.
    For longer errands, ride a bike.
    Move closer to work.

    I’m sure if you think about it, you can come up with lots more.

    Decreasing our dependence on oil is like losing weight. There’s never a good time for it. Most of us talk about it but don’t do a damn thing about it. It requires awareness and lifestyle changes. The problem is that going green has few short-term payoffs and we Americans have become addicted to instant gratification. We’ve become a society which gives no thought to the future.

    First thing is that people need to understand that there is a crisis in our future. It’s amazing how many people think the solution is to drill for more oil and use more oil. U.S. recoverable reserves are 21 billion barrels, including the 4 billion in the Anwar reserve. We use 25 million a day. Do the math. 840 days worth. The entire world uses 100 million barrels a day. There may be less than 100 years worth of oil in recoverable reserves world wide. Then what?

    Stop allowing the extremist environmental crackpots telling us that we cannot drill for oil and gas in our own backyard. There is a overabundance of oil reserves and natural gas. The sooner we drill and the sooner we build new efficient refineries the better off we will all be. No more listening to the crap coming out of the middle east, or South America, the new home of Communism. We well be energy independant and the exporters of fuel. Forget about alternatives, at this time they are useless.

    There is no easy answer. The average American just can’t afford $10 a gallon.We have had 30 year’s to get it together after the first Oil Crisis.Atomic Power,Wind,Water Current Power. That takes BIG money for investor’s to put their funds into it.There has to be a National Policy on this issue.The American public demands it!.Let’s see if our politicans have the guts to do it.America survives on wheels.Mostly it is the cost of being "green" it’s all nice and fine to use solar power but most people can’t afford the price of installing it."Ethanol is a joke and is taking food out of the mouth of babies.This is a worldwide problem.The very poor of the world will starve.Corn feeds beef and meat products,High fuel prices deliver it to us.Part of the reason of high food prices.Then there is always Rationing fuel (I really loved sitting in a gas line for 3 hour’s)You can help yourself just using your fuel and home energy smartly. Shop on the way home from work.Turn off the light in a unoccupied room.Keep your car tuned up for better gas mileage.Grow your own food.

    Dont know what the solution will be but i know as of right know Ethanol is not the answer. making ethanol from corn requires 29 percent more fossil energy than the ethanol fuel itself actually contains. so its actually a step back rather than forward.

    The reason there is an energy crisis is mainly because it is a controlled market. The dependency on oil-based transportation is causing a high supply of demand. Therefore the oil corporations are in control of the market. This puts the general public to their knees. Because they depend on gas to get to their jobs.

    The same thing goes to energy. It is something we need in our home to survive. Therefore energy corporations again control us even more.

    The system is corrupt. Power is not from the people. People are slaves to depency on energy. I do not see the corporations giving up any power to the people any time soon.

    Alternative ways to create transportation and energy are the only solution. The bike market will be on the rise in big cities. Vehicles will be a thing of the past. If people have to choose whether to buy food or gas, they will choose food.

    Windmills, solar energy, and back-up generators will help people become more independent.

    A new technology for transportation is needed. A technology where the new transportation will be very affordable. A new technology where corporations do not monopolize the people.

    Bikes and hover-boards. Robotic energy vehicles that do not need gasoline. Solar powered vehicles. Solar powered homes. Free energy. That would solve the problems in the long run.

    The ultimate invention would be a teleportation device, like seen on Star Trek. That way, people would not need planes, trains or automobiles. You can just beam yourself to where ever you want to go.

    However, the real problem is that the people really do not have any power at all. These markets are controlled by people above. What is their agenda? Why is there so much trouble in the market? What are they doing with all that money? Funding a war? Creating a plan to decrease our population through starvation? The problem is not supply. The problem is the greedy system.

    The truth is there is no food shortage or oil shortage. There is something else going on. The people are being held in the dark. The only solution is positive change in our governments to bring power back to the people.
