What is the solution to the energy crisis?

As oil tops 0 a barrell we can expect per gallon in the next few years. Petrol, a non-renewable resource must be on its way out. Ethanol, a renewable clean burning fuel, is a favorite, however critics have cited it as a poor choice as, they claim it will cause food prices to soar even higher, specifically corn. And cause a (further) food shortage among poorer nations.
What can be a solution that everyone can live with?

    Ethanol is a fraud since the machinery used in farming the corn and then the machinery used to turn it into fuel is using as much fuel as the corn would actually produce. The use of bio-fuel (oil already made and used for cooking food) may help somewhat. Solar and wind power is environmentally friendlier. I fear the idea of Nuclear power plants. Where ever one is will be an easy target for any enemy to blow up and contaminate the population with radiation. And then there is the radioactive waste products to worry about.
    Employers could allow for 4 day work weeks saving employees one day of fuel consumption making the commute. Allowing employees to work from home in a home office would save the cost of large brick and mortar business centers that have to be heated, have air conditioning, lighting est. and little fuel consumption for the employees.
    Damaging the environment to find more fuel only delays the problem-we need to learn better ways to produce energy in a less nature sacrificing way.
    Actual oil consumption in the U.S.A. is actually 17% lower this year then the same time last year.
    Federal Express is having computers plot routes changes to maximize right hand turns to conserve on the use of fuel. Planning our own drives to minimize our driving helps too.

    electricity , whcich can be created quite cleanly with air ,sun ,water and nuclear enrgy which contrary to common belief does not really affect the environment

    first there is still plenty of oil to be had, we just have to go and get it. we need to get congress to allow drilling in the anwr, on the continental shelfs, in the gulf of mexico, in north dakota, and where ever else the oil is. we need for congress to reduce the number of fuel blends required from 40+ around the country to 2-3. we need congress to allow more refineries to be built, that way we dont have to import already refined gasoline as some companies are doing now. we need congress to allow the liquefaction of coal to make synthetic gasoline. we need to grow hemp to allow for alternative fuel production that doesnt cut into food supplies. we need for congress to make real economic reform to strengthen the dollar rather than put bandaids on severe wounds. if we do all the things i mentioned, we may not see under $2 per gallon gasoline, but it will be close. we can make ethanol from sources other than food crops. these include hemp, sugar cane, sugar beets, switch grass, algae, etc. we can even make fuel from stuff that otherwise fills land fills, stuff like otherwise dead food. we can recycle plastics and remake them into a fuel source. rubber products can be made back into a form of crude oil for refining.

    in order to do this however we need for congress to pass a real energy bill, and we need to tell the environmentalists to go pound sand because we need the energy.
